| Hamilton County Schools and Carnegie Learning Develop Tennessee Bridge to Algebra Grade 8 Mathematics Partnership Delivers New State-Specific Textbook & Software PITTSBURGH, PA, August 10, 2009 – Hamilton County Schools in Chattanooga, Tennessee has purchased a custom math textbook and software program developed in partnership with Carnegie Learning for use this fall. All 8th graders in Hamilton County will use either Carnegie Learning® Tennessee Bridge to Algebra Grade 8 Mathematics or Carnegie Learning® Algebra I. “Building a custom 8th grade math curriculum was critical to Hamilton County School’s implementation of the new and more rigorous Tennessee Mathematics Standards,” said Jamason Parris, Hamilton County’s director of secondary mathematics and science. “We worked closely with Carnegie Learning to customize Tennessee Bridge to Algebra Grade 8 Mathematics, which we believe is best aligned to the standards and will prepare our students to be successful in Algebra I and beyond.” Hamilton County Schools also renewed the purchase of Carnegie Learning® Algebra I, Geometry, and Algebra II Curricula for a fifth year for use in all 18 district high schools. The No Child Left Behind percentages of Hamilton County Schools’ students scoring proficient or advanced in mathematics have increased for the third consecutive year, improving from 76% in 2007 to 89% in 2009. “Carnegie Learning has a dynamic partnership with Hamilton County Schools, and we are very excited to see it grow in scope each year,” said Dennis Ciccone, chief executive officer of Carnegie Learning, Inc. “We attribute much of the performance improvement to building strong relationships in the classroom. Hamilton County Schools currently supports trained district math teachers who coach their colleagues in the successful implementation of Carnegie Learning® Math Programs throughout the year. This model creates trust, commitment, and a deep knowledge of the curricula and has served the district well.” In addition to these core curricula math implementations, Hamilton County Schools is working with Carnegie Learning to customize the Cognitive Tutor® Software for use in a pilot program, “Bridge to Postsecondary”, which supports seniors needing math intervention based on their ACT scores. A similar course will be offered by the state of Tennessee for the 2010-2011 school year. About Carnegie Learning (www.carnegielearning.com) |
