| Bartow County, Georgia and Del Valle, Texas among Districts Helping At-risk Students Meet More Rigorous Math Requirements PITTSBURGH, PA, September 11, 2008 – Carnegie Learning, Inc., a leading publisher of research-based math curricula for middle school, high school, and higher education students, reports that Carnegie Learning™ Adaptive Math Solutions have been adopted by Bartow County Schools in Georgia and Del Valle Independent School District in Texas as a Response to Intervention (RTI) program for students likely to struggle with the transition from middle school to high school mathematics. According to the company, sales of the Adaptive Math software as supplemental, intervention curricula in the two districts combined top $200,000, and RTI sales across the country are growing as states mandate higher-level math requirements. The Georgia Department of Education has already instituted more rigorous integrated math standards, and Texas and California are among a growing number of states requiring high school students to pass Algebra II. “We have to engage struggling students in a way we never have before if we are expecting them to improve in performance while simultaneously implementing a more demanding curriculum,” said Dr. John Barge, Director of Secondary Instruction for Bartow County Schools in Georgia. “We did a great deal of research and felt that Carnegie Learning had a strong foundation in cognitive-based teaching and learning and positive results to back that up.” In Bartow County Schools in Georgia, the District used state grant funding to purchase Carnegie Learning’s Integrated Math I software for middle school intervention this fall.
