What an exciting month - Carnegie Learning has a brand-new look, and we're only a one month away from the launch of the feature-packed 2010-2011 version of the Cognitive Tutor software!

As always, if you have any success stories that you'd like to share with our team, please contact us at newsletter@carnegielearning.com.

The New Look of Carnegie Learning, Inc.

Carnegie Learning has officially launched its new brand!

Carnegie Learning Logo

Carnegie Learning has the courage to not only question the traditional way of teaching math, but to help re-invent it. Our revolutionary strategy is empowering students to produce significantly improved math scores in a diverse spectrum of school districts across the nation. By constantly innovating and developing new ways for students to learn, Carnegie Learning is ensuring schools, teachers and, most importantly, students achieve greater success.

2010 Carnegie Learning Web SiteWe've also launched a new corporate web site that is focused on providing content and solutions to educators looking to improve their students' math skills. You'll notice our "content browsers" embedded on most site pages. These tabbed browsers allow you to explore layers of content that match the page that you are reading.

As always, we welcome your comments and questions, and we hope you will enjoy the new site. We are planning on launching the new Carnegie Learning Online later this summer, and will be combining the elements of the current Online and Resource Center web sites into one easy-to-use web experience.

Carnegie Learning Curricula Feature:
Cognitive Tutor Geometry "Interactive Diagram" Tool

Carnegie Learning Geometry, Second Edition is due to be released this May. Leading up to the release, we'll highlight a new feature of our forthcoming curricula each month. This month's feature is the new Interactive Diagram tool found in Cognitive Tutor Geometry software.

Carnegie Learning Geometry - Interactive DiagramThe Interactive Diagram tool allows students to perform concrete problem solving by working directly in the context of the given diagram to build a stronger connection to geometric relationships and visual representations.

This design of the tool is based on successful research studies from the Pittsburgh Science of Learning Center. We have added the interactive diagram to three of our software units: Lines Cut by a Transversal, Pythagorean Theorem, and Properties of Triangles.

Students are provided with an image that reflects the problem scenario. If the student does not want or need to use the picture as an additional aid, they may hide it at any time. When the student mouses over the diagram, "handles" appear that show selectable elements in close proximity to the mouse, and the selectable areas are highlighted. Once the student enters an answer while working in the diagram, their work is reflected in the diagram itself and in the diagram notes to the left. This serves as a summary of the student’s work at a glance.

For more information of the textbook and software components of Carnegie Learning Geometry Second Edition, including a demo of the Interactive Diagram feature, please view our new video presentation:
