Almost 10% of American high school students speak English as a second language*, and often districts have no clear guidelines on how to address their needs.
In an independent study commissioned by the Miami/Dade school district, researchers found that students identified as having Limited English Proficiency (LEP) scored 16 points higher on the FCAT test using Carnegie Learning math curriculum than a comparison curriculum.
This resulted in a 43% increase in the pass rate on the FCAT for LEP students using Carnegie Learning's Cognitive Tutor.
In a separate independent study conducted by the Kent, Washington school district, results showed that pre- to post-test gains on NWEA's MAP exam were 88% higher for English Language Learners (ELL) who used Carnegie Learning’s Cognitive Tutor than those who used a comparison curriculum.
