Should I ever advance students in the MATHia software?

Although the ability is there, it’s not recommended— and most teachers agree because they do not want to break the intentional learning progression. There are, however, special cases where advancement might be appropriate. If a student is in danger of becoming entirely disengaged from the process, advancement will often revive the student’s flagging enthusiasm, allowing his or her knowledge gaps to be effectively addressed. There are also special cases where a student entering the class mid-year or a student experiencing a personal situation may warrant a specialized plan.
