Research drives our innovative, advanced technology, and it has from the start. Our learning solutions are built on and proven by research, and the Carnegie Learning Research Team collaborates with the top minds in the world to continuously improve learning experiences for students everywhere. As we work with you to turn your actionable data into improved learning outcomes, we shape the future of learning together.

Built on Research

Founded by cognitive and computer scientists from Carnegie Mellon University, Carnegie Learning has been deeply immersed in research from the get-go. Our work is built on groundbreaking research on how the brain learns from cognitive scientists at leading U.S. universities, as well as over 30 years of evidence-based research. We work diligently to apply all of this research to our products and services, to give you and your students the best learning experience possible.

Research to Perfection

When research drives your math solution, it makes a difference. Our Middle School Math Solution received perfect scores by EdReports.org, and our High School Math Solution was just one point shy of perfect. They met rigorous standards for the gateways of Focus & Coherence, Rigor & Mathematical Practices, and Usability.

Our blended solutions are among the most carefully studied math curricula and meet ESSA Tier 1 “Strong” evidence standards. Used outside of the blended curriculum, our AI-powered MATHia software meets ESSA Tier 2 “Moderate” evidence standards. Our Professional Learning services satisfy ESSA’s evidence standards by demonstrating that they increase teachers’ math and pedagogical content knowledge.

Lenses on Literature is a comprehensive, standards-aligned ELA program designed to build deep reading, writing, and disciplinary literacy skills through rich texts, scaffolded supports, and embedded formative assessment. A large study of more than 18,000 students earned it a “Promising” rating from Evidence for ESSA, showing measurable gains in reading performance and even stronger results with sustained use.

ClearMath Elementary is built on research showing that math instruction aligned with how children naturally learn—honoring curiosity and problem-solving—can dramatically boost outcomes. In one study, students using the program gained an average of 4.9 additional months of learning per year, exceeding national expectations by up to 41%.

Proven Results

You deserve materials that work as hard as you do, so we make sure our solutions are the best they can be to help you work your magic in the classroom. In study after study, Carnegie Learning resources have been proven effective.

In an independent “Gold Standard” study funded by the U.S. Department of Education and conducted by the RAND Corporation, our blended approach nearly doubled growth in performance on standardized tests relative to typical students in the second year of implementation. This study is more comprehensive and rigorous than any other research study on a middle or high school math program.

The EMERALDS Study by Student Achievement Partners found that completion of more workspaces in MATHia in middle school led to better performance in Algebra I. The effect was even stronger in students who had low test scores.

Lenses on Literature's research-backed approach to ELA led to remarkable gains of 4-9 months of additional learning for students in major urban districts, narrowing achievement gaps and accelerating learning for students who’d fallen behind.

Driving the Research

We’re never satisfied with what has been and we’re obsessed with what can be. That’s why our dedicated research team of master practitioners, learning science researchers, and cognitive and data scientists conducts advanced research on how to help students further achieve their learning potential, collaborates with independent research organizations and universities, and publishes results on the most effective learning practices and behaviors.

What Our People Say

"We take the research very seriously, so we understand what’s been proven to work and balance that with a healthy respect for the difficulty in translating laboratory research into practical and effective classroom practices. We're also unique in that we don’t just read about learning science — we’re active collaborators with some of the world’s leading learning scientists."
