What is Lenses
on Literature?

Lenses on Literature is a comprehensive, blended ELA curriculum for grades 6-12. High-quality and standards-driven, Lenses is designed to engage all students in authentic and rigorous grade-level literacy experiences.

The Lenses research- and efficacy-backed journey offers equitable access to the knowledge, skills, and competencies learners need to engage with standards-driven tasks and complex texts. Ultimately, students will be set up to succeed as engaged local and global citizens who think critically, read joyfully, and write confidently.

Efficacy

Radical growth, undeniable results

Lenses on Literature evolved out of a central question: How can we design instruction from the assumption that every student can read, think, and write creatively and confidently using complex, grade-level tasks and texts?

To find the answer, educators and experts across 40+ states joined to form the Literacy Design Collaborative (LDC) and prove this is possible for all students. 

LDC found that students using the Lenses instructional model gained, on average, 4-9 months of additional learning in one school year.

We're all green

EdReports.org evaluated Lenses on Literature in 2026 and gave us all-green, Meets Expectations ratings in both Core gateways (Comprehension and Teacher & Student Supports). In curriculum evaluation, all-green scores are the gold standard.

IMPACT

Teaching Students How to Think, Not Just What to Think

Lenses on Literature treats students as readers and thinkers, encouraging students to ask their own questions and revisit texts multiple times through intentional "lenses." At Georgia’s School for Arts Infused Learning, ELA teacher Dr. Amber Dumbuya found the impact was immediate, with students annotating purposefully, leading to more sophisticated discussions and improved writing. In her words, "Their writing improved because their thinking improved."
