Meet Carnegie Learning

Your partner in delivering K-12 education solutions that work.

Carnegie Learning is a leading provider of K-12 education technology, curriculum and professional learning solutions. With the highest quality offerings for K-12 math, literacy and ELA, world languages, professional learning and more, Carnegie Learning is changing the way we think about learning and creating powerful results for teachers and students alike.

Our Beliefs

We believe that quality education is important for all students—it makes it possible for them to develop into creative problem solvers, critical thinkers, and life-long learners.

We believe that learning is more than just memorizing or even performing well on tests—it involves deep conceptual understanding that supports ongoing growth and continued development.

We believe that all students can learn and understand more deeply when teachers believe in them, involve them, and encourage them to own their learning.

We believe all educators can successfully and effectively teach with the proper resources and support to build cultures of collaborative learning.

We believe that when these things happen, your students will love learning just as much as we do, leading to truly exceptional outcomes.

History How Our Past Has Shaped the Future of Learning

Born from decades of learning science research at Carnegie Mellon University, Carnegie Learning has become a recognized leader in the ed tech space, using artificial intelligence, formative assessment, and adaptive learning to deliver groundbreaking solutions to education’s toughest challenges.

1998 CL is founded in Pittsburgh, PA by cognitive and computer scientists from Carnegie Mellon University who teamed up with math educators at Pittsburgh Public Schools to launch a high school math learning technology (Cognitive Tutor®) based off of their years of research into how students learn.
2010 - 2011 The company launches the Carnegie Learning Math Series, a blended middle school solution that includes a textbook and the next generation of Cognitive Tutor, MATHia. Now in hundreds of schools and districts, a RAND study is released to show CL’s modern approach to math learning can nearly double growth in performance.
2018 The company expands offerings to include K-12 literacy and ELA, world languages, and more after a major investment results in a strategic merger with EMC School & Mondo Publishing. This powerful partnership begins its focus on delivering high-quality content and automated differentiation technology that drive superior teaching and learning outcomes.
2020 After receiving a strategic growth investment from leading private equity firm Madison Dearborn Partners (MDP), CL acquires Scientific Learning, a leading evidence-based online reading and language software provider known for its innovative Fast ForWord program. The Literacy Design Collaborative (LDC) team also joins CL to further expand its ELA curriculum solutions and professional development offerings.
2021 Carnegie Learning acquires Zorbit’s Math, a supplemental math software solution that uses play-based adaptive learning to help elementary students develop a deeper understanding of math and a positive growth mindset. With this acquisition, Carnegie Learning expands its portfolio of proven ed tech solutions to encompass all of K-12 math and reading.
